Biography

With a lifelong passion for World Music and Music of Black Origin, DJ Mayeva comes from a multicultural background with parents of Peruvian-Scottish and Norwegian-Irish origin.

She has been performing and hosting world music stages at venues and festivals throughout the UK since 2006, including the Croydon Summer Music Festival, the Todmorden Folk Festival, Blue Dot and Kendal Calling. She has programmed and hosted several world music festivals in Manchester, including the multi-venue Cultural Collage World Music Festival, The Lingua Franca World Music Festival at the Bridgewater Hall and the Viva Latin American Festival at HOME. In Liverpool she has appeared at the city’s River Festival, Africa Oye and has supported Shangaan Electro at the Kazimier Gardens.

Mayeva plays music to suit any ambience – from laid back chilled beats from India and Morocco, through to the latest Samba and Salsa dance club sounds passing through Balkan beats, reggae and African rap along the way.

Under her given name, Geli Berg, she produced and presented Cultural Collage, a monthly world music and cultural magazine programme on ALL FM 96.9 Community Radio in Manchester between 2004 and 2013.
